Self-Organizing Virtual Enterprises

چکیده
Two decades ago, the US military performed some large classified studies of the state of the manufacturing enterprise. The impetus was a by now well known problem: doing complex work in large enterprises is so heavily burdened by the machinery of running the enterprise that things cost too much (typically twice), they evolve too slowly in terms of technology and some things just cannot be done at all. Three radically different models of the future enterprise emerged. One seemed most natural to power brokers at the time, the "integrated enterprise," In this model, large relatively stable enterprises became more "frictionless" wdth information flowing along designated lines of command and control. The enterprise can be and often is "virtual" in the sense that many companies are "linked" in a supply chain. A characteristic is that the integrating strategy and management is integrated with the management of production and capital at the top, with a prime contractor or leader. A second vision was rather radical. It attempted to decouple the three (production, capital, integration). The integrating technologies and methods would be provided from the suiTounding environment, perhaps as standards, best practices

Self-Organizing Model for Virtual Enterprises
This paper presents a new self-organizing model based on the generalized particle dynamics (GPD) for virtual enterprises.̂ Differing from traditional organizing model for virtual enterprises, the GPD-based selforganizing model may provide the optimal organization for desired virtual enterprises according to historical organizations and current requirements. The GPD conception, algorithm and its ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Collaborative Enterprises Networks: Case Study of Brazilian Virtual Enterprises
The emergency of the so called new digital economy, with intense diffusion of the information and telecommunication technologies, has provoked a revolution in the business world through the last years, changing the companies’ paths and strategies, despite the nature of its products, markets and processes. Thus, the organizational networks become an alternative way of organizing the production o...
متن کاملThe SDVM: A Self Distributing Virtual Machine for Computer Clusters
Computer systems of the future will consist more and more of autonomous and cooperative system parts and behave self-organizing. Self-organizing is mainly characterized by adaptive and context-oriented behaviour. The Self Distributing Virtual Machine (SDVM) is an adaptive, self configuring and self distributing virtual machine for clusters of heterogeneous, dynamic computer resources. In this p...
متن کاملDecision-Making Processes and Team Performance in Self-Organizing Virtual Teams: The Case of Free/Libre Open Source Software Development Teams
Effective decision making is critical to team effectiveness. We examine decision making in the setting of self-organizing virtual teams, a setting that we expect to pose particular problems for effective decision making. A self-organizing team must develop effective practices in the absence of a formal organizational structure that guides the practices. A virtual team’s reliance on technologica...
متن کاملCombining Luhmann and Actor-Network Theory to See Farm Enterprises as Self-organizing Systems1
From a rural, sociological point of view no social theories have so far been able to grasp the ontological complexity and special character of a farm enterprise as an entity in a really satisfying way. The contention of this paper is that a combination of Luhmann’s theory of social systems and the actor-network theory (ANT) of Latour, Callon, and Law offers a new and radical framework for under...
